Good spot! This was always frowned upon by Google, it was 50/50 if you got away with it depending on the Google rep moderating your ad or if you got spidered.

This will affect the more creative affiliates out there as you say, but then if your business was built around trying to break the rules or bend them in this instance then perhaps its their own short sightedness.

Long overdue IMO too as it gives AM a bad name.

Hi Dave,

I run a hotel reservations company at www.midashotels.com and we're thinking about joining an affiliate programme. We've contaced a few, Commission Junmction, Affiliate Windows and Affiliate Future and to be honest I'm a bit confused. I'd love the opportunity to talk to you about what's good and what's bad with each scheme, and perhaps you can give me an insight into what would work for all the affiliates out there.

Let me know your thoughts.

Best regards,
Mike

Hi David,

Is it possible to use this script to count the number of times an individual link is clicked? SO I could look every few days and see what the most popular link was by number of clicks?

many thanks,
Marc

If it is possible to run a step by step guide I would read it

as pointed out kindly on the A4U forums by Diobach, you can cover all the user agents in your robots.txt file with the following code:

User-agent: *
Disallow: redirect.php

This will cover all SE robots and any other robots that may try to access the file.

Thanks for this script, just what I've been searching for. I was struggling to see why it wasn't working though - there's a " ' " missing after linkid on Line 2.
Thanks again!

Just as a footnote to this post, if you want to see a redirect in action just look at the 'Affiliate Networks' on the right hand side. They use this technique.
